About me – and the site

I am a 30-something woman living in Perth, Western Australia.

I decided to start running because I needed to lose weight. A quick internet search pulled up the C25k program, so off I went with a stop watch. That was a pain in the ass. Also in the legs and chest and a few other places, but that’s beside the point. The point is that trying  to time one minute running and so on and so forth with a stop watch is really hard.

Eventually, I found Robert Ullrey’s podcasts. This was fantastic! a little voice in my ear saying stop, start, and good work! you’re done. No thinking required. I finally got through the first week.

Only problem – I don’t have the same taste in music as Robert. So I went hunting for a way to make my own MP3′s. I mean – if he could do it, so could I!

Eventually I found Audacity, a free program to mix music and stuff. I figured it out pretty much on my own, and along the way I picked up a few shortcuts.

A while later, I was messing around creating blogs and stuff, and I decided that this was info that other people could use. People on the calorieking.com.au forums were asking about it quite regularly.

This site is the result. The aim of the site is to provide instructions for the use of Audacity that absolutly anyone can follow – even with minimal computer expertise.

I hope it is useful to you.

Cheers,

Vanessa.

Thank you so much for doing this! Timing the C25K intervals was such a pain that eventually got discouraged & quit the program. Using a stopwatch was impossible (my eyes & I are middle-aged), and the music on other C25K didn’t suit my taste. Now I’m raring to go and looking forward to it – every session will be fun, not an ordeal, thanks to the music & prompts. I just ordered an Ipod Nano & will begin recording my plan tomorrow while I wait for it to arrive in the mail. It’s also given me a valuable new skill as an IT support professional – this will be great for making how-to podcasts for training employees on new applications & equipment.

Cheers for pointing out how to do this. I already had Audacity but for some reason never thought to use it for this. Great idea :-)

Thanks again for putting this all together! I finally have a grip on the start/stop thing so I’m not tethered to the treadmill anymore…off I go into the wild blue yonder LOL! Plus I’m really motivated to run to my own music and your voice sounds far more exotic than my annoying one :-)
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Thanks Jennifer! I’m glad you like my voice – but you must promise not to swear at me when I tell you to start running again :)
