1 – Download Audacity and the LAME encoder

Audacity is a free, open source program. You can download it here. It will allow you to record your voice (if you have a microphone plugged into your computer), create a voice track with stop and start cues at the right times, and add music to it.

Download Audacity and install it on your computer just like any other program. There are a few different versions, for Windows, Mac OSX, Linux etc, so make sure you get the right version for your system.

One thing Audacity cannot do is turn the soundtrack you create into an MP3. But that’s OK, there’s a kind of add-in called the LAME encoder. Just like Audacity, there’s a few versions, so get the right one for your system.

You download the appropriate version from here, and save the file “lame_enc.dll” anywhere on your computer. I suggest you save it in the same folder you installed Audacity in.

The first time you try to export a track as an MP3, Audacity will ask you where the lame_enc.dll is saved, you browse to the appropriate folder and you’re doneĀ  :)

Next step – Create or download your Voice Files

If you save the file as a “.wav” file, you can add it into iTunes without the extra program. Just save it, open iTunes, and in iTunes click “Add to Library.” Search for the file you just created, and voila! There it is!
